About Rachel Plunkett
Rachel is a science and nature storyteller who helps organizations communicate in plain language with policymakers, stakeholder groups, and the general public. She holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Policy and Communication from Rutgers University and a M.S. degree in Marine Biology from Florida Atlantic University.
While she calls both Florida and North Carolina home, she travels and works remotely often from her custom-built camper, and visited 14 national parks and monuments in 2023.
In addition to being the content manager and senior writer for NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Rachel is also a freelance travel and outdoors writer whose stories cover a variety of topics about her personal adventures on land and underwater, as well as nerdy tidbits about wildlife and ecosystems to help others connect with nature. As a skilled diver and an underwater photographer, she loves sharing macrophotography—the small details—of fish, corals, nudibranchs, seahorses, flowers, insects, and more with people around the world.
She also ghost authors SEO blogs for company websites on topics such as the latest green energy technology, community solar programs, smart home technology solutions, eco-friendly products, green lifestyle choices, internet and streaming service guides, renter’s guides and neighborhood reviews, and at-home science experiments for school-age children.
